Roselyn I. Heslep, 89, of Portsmouth, passed away on Thursday, January 15, at Hill View. She was born on October 11, 1936, in Mullens, WV, to the late George Vernon ‘Jack’ and Mabel Elizabeth Brown Duncan.
A 15-year volunteer for the Portsmouth River Days Festival, Roselyn was well-known for running the Miss River Days Pageant and events for eight years, having a positive influence on several hundred young women in our area. Roselyn was also a former member of Portsmouth Area Ladies (PALS). A 1954 graduate of Mullens (WV) High School, she received a degree in general office management from the Jefferson School of Commerce in Charlottesville, VA. Roselyn was the office manager for Diaz Construction for many years, and she had also worked for The Washington Group. She attended Christ’s Community Church.
Surviving is her daughter Jerri (Bryan) Lewis of Portsmouth, one sister Donna Hensen of Myrtle Beach, SC, two grandchildren, Kara (Jacob) Plummer of Wheelersburg and Jeremy (Amber) Blackburn of Fleming Island, FL, one “special” daughter Shawna (Michael) Wood of Grove City, 5 great-grandchildren, her step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and their families, and many good friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, at 1 PM with Matthew Rawlings, Minister, officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
