A brief but tense foot chase ended safely after a 13-year-old girl ran from a CPS transport near a local group home.
According to Portsmouth Police Department, officers responded after Lawrence County Children Services reported that a 13-year-old female fled on foot while being transported.
The girl was last seen running toward Charles Street, near the Brown and Williams area.
Spotted in an Alley
Officers quickly located the juvenile running down an alley near Campbell Avenue. Police took her into custody without incident and returned her directly to the CPS worker.
No injuries were reported, and no charges were filed.
A Familiar Scenario
Incidents like this aren’t uncommon when juveniles are being moved between placements or services. Quick communication and fast response helped prevent the situation from escalating or turning dangerous.
The priority, officers noted, was locating the child safely and returning her to care—which is exactly how this call ended.
