Officers responded to a report of a fire with heavy smoke on Castle Street and a report of a knifeman running loose on Elliot Road. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s daily briefing.
Under The Influence
- Just after 1 am, a caller reported two women in a gray vehicle shooting up at the Speedway on Gallia Street. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
- At 7:50 am, a caller reported a man in the Kroger parking lot on Gay Street. Witnesses said he was screaming and yelling and then passing out. He left before officers arrived.
Suspicious Activity
- A tow driver alerted officers to a suspicious incident on Bertha Avenue just after 2:30 am. He spotted his elderly neighbor’s driver-side door standing wide opened, but was unable to contact her when he knocked on the door. Police contacted the woman who said nothing was missing from the car and it’s possible that she left the door open.
- At 6:12 am, a caller spotted a woman lying on the side of the road at Coles and the Scioto Trail. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
- A 6th Avenue caller contacted police to report a man in dark clothing lying in the alley behind a condemned property. Police advised the man to leave the area and stay off the property. He complied.
Man With a Knife on Elliot Road
A man told police that he was chased by a bald man wielding a knife just after 8 am. He identified his attacker.
Police took a statement and began to search for the suspect. However, they were unable to locate him.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
A Franklin Avenue caller reported that a thief cut the catalytic converter off a vehicle parked outside the address. Police took information for a report.
Castle Street Fire
Officers responded to a report of a house fire on Castle Street at 11 am. Police and fire units responded to the scene and reported heavy smoke.
The fire was out by 11:28 pm and all units cleared the scene by 12:30 pm.
Kids Wandering on Wayne Avenue
Just after noon, a Wayne Avenue caller reported two very young children wandering around with no adult supervision. She said one of the little ones had no diaper.
The woman called back 15 minutes later to say their father returned home from work and took them inside. However, she wasn’t sure where he lived.
Runaway Returned Home
Officers helped return a teenage runaway just after noon. They picked her up and dropped her off at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at the request of the Juvenile Court.
Deputies returned the girl home to Ross County.
Helping Hands
- At 12:20 am, police were called to a home where both the husband and wife are COVID-positive.
The woman had fallen in the garage and needed help getting up. - Fifteen minutes later, police responded to the Hurth apartment to help a resident unable to get up from her shower chair.
