What started as a reported juvenile argument possibly involving a weapon turned into a nighttime search through the woods near Lucasville.
Just after 7 p.m., deputies received a call about two juveniles arguing, with one possibly armed.
But moments later, the caller contacted dispatch again insisting the situation was only verbal and involved “just kids.”
According to dispatch notes:
- The original caller was reportedly 13 years old
- The grandmother was allegedly involved in starting the conflict
- And tensions inside the family appeared to be escalating quickly
🚨 THEN THE KIDS RAN INTO THE WOODS
About 20 minutes later, another woman called 911 reporting two frightened juvenile girls had arrived at her home saying they were scared to go back home.
The caller said the girls then disappeared into nearby woods.
Deputies began searching the area on foot near the tree line and eventually spotted the juveniles running deeper into the woods.
One deputy followed what appeared to be a trail while another requested a drone to help search from above.
However, the juveniles were located before the drone had to be deployed.
👀 WHY POLICE DON’T CANCEL THESE CALLS
Even when callers try to cancel situations involving juveniles, deputies usually still respond if:
- Weapons were mentioned
- Threats were made
- Kids may be in danger
- Or emotions are escalating rapidly
Because officers never know whether a situation is actually calming down—or getting worse behind the scenes.
⚠️ RUNAWAY JUVENILE CALLS CAN TURN DANGEROUS FAST
Police say kids fleeing into woods or dark areas creates major safety concerns involving:
- Traffic
- Exposure to weather
- Falls or injuries
- Getting lost
- Or encounters with strangers
That’s one reason officers moved quickly to search the area before darkness made things worse.
