SCDN Investigates: Local Colorful Character Goes Missing

SCDN Investigates: Local Colorful Character Goes Missing

Greg Stevens has long been a fixture in the Gallia Street area, where he’s known to push a shopping cart full of his collected trash and frequent local businesses.

Stevens is no stranger to police, with 84 arrests to his name. Despite that long record, both police and citizens are fond of the local fixture. He’s known as a cheerful fellow who has a smile for everyone, unless they try to take his shopping cart.

Police see him as a peaceful, if troubled individual. Despite having a concerned family, he has chosen to live on the streets and spurned most offers of assistance.

When Stevens disappeared off the streets a few weeks ago, folks began to worry. Stevens’ family contacted police and everyone from the employees of Gallia Street businesses to local politicians have expressed concern for his safety.

In light of the murder of a homeless man on Linden Avenue last October, anxiety for his safety was heightened.

A concerned citizen told SCDN that Greg does yard work and house repairs for people in Portsmouth. “Even with him being homeless, he would still give everything he had.”

SCDN was contacted and began to look into Greg’s whereabouts and were relieved to learn from Greg’s relatives that he is alive and well. It seems Greg made a new lady friend and has moved in with her. His family reports he’s looking better than he has in years and seems to be doing very well.

Publisher’s Note: I value Greg very much. For years, his good nature and unique spirit have made me smile. My heart ached for him. When I beat the drum for warming stations and cooling stations, he and others are always on my mind.

My best wishes are with Greg. He deserves to continue on this path, and I pray for his success.

To those still suffering. To those who have loved ones suffering. We can all look at our friend Greg and see the possibility. We can feel the potential.

SCDN will start using the hashtag #ucan2 to promote the potential of ourselves, our situations and families, and our lovely town on the rolling river.
