As part of its efforts to preserve the county’s historic landmarks, the Scioto County Courthouse Maintenance Department has been working on a variety of restoration projects. The iconic 96-year-old courthouse in Portsmouth, Ohio, built as Scioto County’s third Courthouse in 1927, was recently successfully illuminated after a long-standing issue was resolved by Maintenance Manager Tyler Miller and his team.

For many years, the West side ground lighting had remained non-functional, leaving the courthouse engulfed in darkness during the evenings. The antiquated fixtures had failed, and the lenses suffered damage and breakage due to age and water-related deterioration.

The Maintenance Department was determined to restore the Scioto County Courthouse to its original splendor. Manager Tyler Miller and his team systematically addressed the lighting issue, finding an effective solution for approximately $300.00, demonstrating skill and resourcefulness.

Their efforts resulted in the successful replacement of faulty fixtures and repairs to damaged lenses. With this transformation, the courthouse has been given new life, with its architectural features and historical significance highlighted.
