The Ohio State Patrol said that 15 people lost their lives in 15 crashes over the holiday weekend, and six of those crashes were OVI-related. However, none of those fatalities happened in Scioto County.
According to OSP figures, Scioto County saw 179 traffic incidents over the long weekend. Compare that to nearby Jackson County, with 392 incidents, and Lawrence, with 322 incidents. Scioto County has 72,000 residents, while Jackson has less than half as many residents, with 32,500, and Lawrence has 56,653.
In other good news, fatal accidents were down from last year, when 24 people perished in the same time period.
Overall, the state saw 519 crashes, 378 suspected OVIs, and 784 people driving without a license.
