Scioto County SVU Arrests Portsmouth Man for Rape, Drug Trafficking

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reported that the Portsmouth Police Department called his office on May 27th, 2022, in regard to a sexual assault report.

The victim was transferred to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment before being transported to Adena Health Systems in Waverly, Ohio for a sexual assault examination, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Thoroughman noted that the case has been assigned to Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel, who is working with the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Portsmouth Police Department.

Detectives were able to conduct interviews during the investigation, which led to the suspect being discovered at his house, 2124 8th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. As a result, the suspect was quickly apprehended.

Sheriff Thoroughman claimed that during the investigation, officers learned about drug misuse and trafficking at this property.

George Case Sanderlin, 45, of 2124 8th Street in Portsmouth, Ohio, was arrested. Sanderlin has been charged with two counts of rape, a first-degree crime, one count of permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony, and one charge of drug trafficking, a fifth-degree felony.

Sanderlin is being held on a $120,000 bond.

Sheriff Thoroughman noted that the investigation is still ongoing and that more charges may be submitted to the Scioto County Grand Jury at a later date.
