Scott Michael Battles, a resident of Sciotodale, OH, passed away after a long battle with cancer and a recent illness on January 18, 2025.
Scott was born in Baltimore, MD February 26, 1964. As an Army brat, Scott lived in several places throughout his childhood before graduating from Merrimack (New Hampshire) High School in 1982. He attended Norwich University for one year before committing to a career in the United States Marine Corps, in which he served for 20 years before retiring in 2003.
After retiring, Scott worked as a government contractor in Tampa, FL, a tunnel kiln foreman for Harbison-Walker International in South Shore, Kentucky, and as a tax preparer in Kentucky and Virginia. He later attended Shawnee State University where he helped a number of students as a math and science tutor before his cancer diagnosis.
In 2004, Scott relocated to his wife, Barbara Wilson-Battles’s home in Scioto County in 2004, where he grew to love the area and was fascinated by the region’s various iron furnaces. Scott always seemed to have a project in the works involving computers, cars, or in helping others. He loved football, camping, and his various cats and dogs.
Scott was preceded in death by two siblings, Bruce Battles and Deborah Riordan. He is survived by his parents, Daniel Battles of Williamsport, PA and Linda (James) Dunko of Dumfries, VA, his older brother, Edward Battles, and two daughters, Allyson and Amanda Battles, and his wife of 23 years, Barbara “Brew” Wilson-Battles.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made directly to the funeral home to help with final arrangements: FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662 or www.fcdaehlermortuary.com.
