Self-Checkout Shoplifters Caught in the Act

Many retailers around the country are getting rid of self-checkouts due to the large number of thefts that happen when folks are left to their own devices.

Deputies responded to the South Point Walmart after security said they spotted a woman in the pharmacy aisle concealing children’s clothing and other items on her person, then went through a self-checkout and scanned one low-cost item multiple times.

Officers compared her receipt to the items she had on her and learned that several items were not paid for. They issued the woman a citation to appear in Lawrence County Municipal Court on theft charges.

Officers were called back to Walmart after a woman who’d been previously caught cheating the self-checkout at a Huntington Walmart turned up in the South Point store with her kids in tow.

Security caught her on video skipping items in the self-checkout. Officers waited with the woman in the security office until her husband could pick up the kids, then they arrested her for stealing $446 worth of items and took her to the Lawrence County Jail.

Yet another woman tried to get through the self-checkout without paying for her items the next day. Officers found items concealed on her person and extra items in her cart. Security recovered all the items and trespassed the woman from the store.
