Selma “Selbug” Sparks of South Shore, Kentucky passed away on August 22nd, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born in McDowell, Kentucky. A daughter of the late Vangie May Osborne Howell and Corbett Lee Howell.

Selma was a retired nurse’s aid and former part owner of the South Shore florist. She lived a fulfilling life as a mother/grandmother, sister, wife and friend. Selma loved dancing and spending time with her family. She loved cooking and shopping. Thrifting to be specific. She could make anyone laugh and was the life of any party she attended. Her true pride and joy were her daughters and grandkids. Selma was also a member of the Life Point church as a devout Christian. She was never shy about her faith in God, her favorite book of the bible being Mathew.  Selma was the youngest of eleven siblings.

Preceded in death by three sisters; Jean Mosley, Vernice Smith, and Iveline Tackett, two brothers Eddie Howell and Vernon Howell, brother in law Glenn Tackett, two sister in laws, Velma Howell and Geri Howell.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Sparks, two daughters Melanie (Matthew) Evans of South shore, KY and Danielle (Jamie) Holsinger, also of South Shore. Grandchildren Hannah Evans, Daisha Tumbleson, Dailor Tumbleson and Daiken Holsinger, and one great granddaughter Dayanah expected in October. Two brothers Dick Howell of Dayton, Ohio, Ernie (Wilma) Howell of Tampa, Florida. Three sisters Linda (Herl) Stumbo of McDowell, KY. Faye (Red) Mckenzie of South Shore, KY. Joyce (Terry) Murphy of Stout, OH and brother in law Bob Smith of South Shore, KY. As well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will follow in the Veterans Cemetery North East. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 from 6 till 8 p.m. and one hour before the service time on Friday.
