Shawnee State Park Offers Winter Fun

Shawnee State Park

Just because it’s wintertime, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do at Shawnee State Park.

The park is hosting a Holiday Hike on Saturday, December 28. Meet at the Lodge lobby at 11 am and you and your family can enjoy a special short trail hike that features Christmas surprised hidden in the forest along the way.

Then stick around for a program with a little more bite to it. Meet in the Lodge Lobby at 2 pm for Snake Tails. This nature education program answers all of your questions about snakes. A naturalist will answer important questions, like do all snakes dangerous? Plus you’ll meet some interesting animals.

On January 1 at 1 pm, you can kick off the New Year with an adventure in the great outdoors with a First Day Hike. Meet in the Lodge lobby and enjoy a one-mile-loop through oak-hickory woods guided by a naturalist. Then come back to the Lodge fireplace to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.

On January 4, 11, and 25, you can meet in the Lodge lobby at 1 pm for a winter trail trek through the park and forest. Make sure you dress for the weather, wear sturdy hiking boots and pack food and water for your hike.
All children must be accompanied by a parent.
