Sheriff and PPD Find Drugs, Guns at Rosemount Hotel
Tips about drug activity at a Rosemount hotel resulted in a meth bust on Wednesday afternoon. Officers also discovered weapons and other drug-related items in the room of a parolee who has had frequent contact with the law.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said detectives from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and the Portsmouth Police Department followed up on the complaints around four in the afternoon.
Detectives knocked on the door of the room and asked to speak with the female tenant. Once inside, they spoke with a male tenant as well.
Officers said the pair occupied adjoining rooms. One of which had the bedroom and bath and the other serving as a kitchen and living room area.
Drugs and Gun Found
The tenants gave permission for Officers to search the premises. Law enforcement said the search turned up approximately 150 grams of suspected Methamphetamine as well as 10 grams of an unidentified powdery substance.
The search also turned up multiple weapons, including a Ruger LCP .380 semi-automatic handgun along with evidence of drug trafficking activity, including a digital scale, and cash.
Repeat Offender
Officers arrested 47-year-old George Webster of Portsmouth. According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, he listed his address as homeless. Webster, who according to jail records is a parolee, was arrested three weeks ago by the Ohio State Patrol and was only held in jail for 1 day. Webster had been arrested 5 times in the past 2 years, mostly for parole violations.
This time, Webster is charged with felony possession of drugs. He was taken to jail and later arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court. He’s currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
Sheriff Thoroughman said the case against Webster and the woman he shared the room with will be forwarded to Scioto County Prosecutor, Shane Tieman, and be present to the grand jury for possible additional charges.
