Sherman “Shorty” Perkins, 93, of Wheelersburg, passed away Friday, July 24, 2020, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. Born November 1, 1926, in Riverton, KY to the late Alonzo Perkins and the late Laura (Prince) Perkins. Shorty attended Landmark Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, a retired Navy Veteran who served in World War II, a member of the Local VFW, and a member of the Ohio Laborers’ Local #83. He was a loving father and a devoted family man.
He is survived by his daughters, Carma and Carla Perkins of Wheelersburg; one brother, Ralph (Barb) Perkins of Branson, MO. He is also lovingly survived by his extended family who knew him as Grandpa Shorty: Susie Cornell, Heather Elliott and family, all of Wheelersburg; Bucky Skaggs and family of Minford; Sherry (James) Maisenbacher and family of Marysville; Missy Voland of Houston, TX; and Donna Jordan of Beaver; Jackie Meade (Tim) and family of Lloyd, KY. In addition to his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Brown) Perkins two brothers, Clifford and Michael Perkins; three sisters, Eilen King, Garnet King, and a sister in infancy; and granddaughters, Shasta Skaggs and Nicole Lynne.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Pastor Larry Blevins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace with military rites provided by James Dickey Post #23, American Legion. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 – 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
