Sleepover Prank Turns Into School Assault Investigation

What allegedly started as a juvenile “prank” at a sleepover ended days later with a student being slammed onto a lunch table at school. And the incident is raising larger concerns about what can happen when sleepovers spiral out of control and embarrassing behavior follows kids back into the classroom. According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, a school administrator contacted a deputy assigned to school detail after a fight broke out during lunch involving two middle school students. Administrators said the conflict stemmed from an incident that allegedly happened during a weekend sleepover involving several juveniles. According to the report, one student reportedly fell asleep during a FaceTime call while other juveniles allegedly took turns placing their bare buttocks near the sleeping child’s face as part of a prank. School officials said tensions boiled over days later in the cafeteria when one student allegedly grabbed another by the shirt and slammed him backward onto a lunch table. An assistant principal reportedly intervened before the situation escalated further. The student involved in the altercation was removed from school and suspended from school grounds and school-related activities. Administrators also advised the family to contact law enforcement regarding the alleged sleepover incident.
