A call about a woman passed out in a running vehicle led to an arrest in Portsmouth.
Officers were sent to a local rehab facility after someone reported a woman slumped over inside a Nissan, phone still in her hand, not moving, with the vehicle running.
When police arrived, they made contact and took the woman into custody.
Ashley Ivy was arrested for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded and towed from the scene.
She later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where she posted bond. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for June 15.
⚠️ WHAT “PHYSICAL CONTROL” MEANS
Many people think you have to be driving to be charged.
In Ohio, that’s not always true.
If you’re impaired and in the driver’s seat with access to operate the vehicle—especially if it’s running—you can still face charges, even if the car never moved.
In this case, a welfare check turned into a criminal case.
