Snapchat School Threats Land Kids In Court

Snapchat School Threats Land Kids In Court

Two local boys are in big trouble after a worried mom reported a threat to bring an AR rifle to Northwest High School.

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said the worried mother contacted police to report her child had spotted threats against Northwest Schools on social media. The threats were specifically related to a possible school shooting.

Deputies went to meet the woman who showed them the threatening messages. The investigation revealed that the original threats took place in a group chat on Messenger and were later updated to Snapchat with the caption,  “If you go to Northwest School be safe tomorrow someone is bringing an AR to school”.

Deputies discovered several kids took part in the chat and that two boys had a conversation that led the other kids to believe they were planning to bring a gun to school.

Officers spoke to the two boys, school officials, and several witnesses. The information was submitted to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential charges. The boys will appear in Scioto County Juvenile Court on Tuesday, February 1.

Deputies stood by at school on Monday morning to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel @ 740-351-1091.
