SOCF Under Attack on 2 Fronts

The Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio is fighting two enemies at the same time. They are having a COVID battle and an insurgence regarding a “whistleblower” claiming mistreatment.

First, let’s look at the current COVID situation. The Scioto County EMA Director, Larry Mullins, has reported that SOCF has 134 employees with active cases of COVID19.

ODRC also reported Saturday that SOCF has 53 inmates with an active case of the virus.

SOCF has 17 inmates in quarantine as a safety precaution due to their upcoming release date, or if they have returned to the facility after an outside court date or medical trip.

Next, there is a rising social media frenzy citing the placement of Nazi propaganda, the restriction of access to water, planting drugs on inmates, and no access to educational material.

A petition being circulated to transfer the whistleblower has garnered 1,596 signatures as of this report.

SCDN has given 3 investigators access to all of the material that has been circulating.

The most glaring inconsistency is in the language of the actual petition. This is how it reads “He has tried multiple times to get into programs to prepare for his future after prison but Southern Ohio Correction Facility does not currently offer any of these. We have however found an outside program that sends curriculum to the facility. [redacted] has enrolled and takes classes ultimately to obtain his paralegal license”

Next, we verified that the Corrections Officers have zero say where COVID patients are placed. There are strict protocols that the medical director has put in place.

Finally, we have reached out to SOCF for comment about these, ever-increasing, allegations. We are currently waiting for a formal statement. When that becomes available, we will update the public.

UPDATE: Since the release of this story, more information has come to light.

An inside source (who is protected by a dozen federal and state laws) has given us this information.

“COs cannot place inmates period. They can request that inmates be moved, but that paperwork goes through administrators. The placement of all COVID positive and COVID suspected inmates is up to medical.”

“Water cannot be shut off to a cell without specific procedures. Water would not be shut off to a COVID positive inmate due to the necessity of keeping them hydrated.”

“It would be almost impossible for any employee to bring in Nazi memorabilia. Employees are not even allowed to bring their phones in.”

” People are working double shifts to keep everyone safe”
