Solemn Occasion Turns Terrifying: Shooting in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach has long been a favored destination for many residents of Southern Ohio seeking sun, sand, and relaxation.

In a deeply unsettling scenario, Myrtle Beach Police responded to an alarming shooting incident early Monday morning at the Budget Inn near 501 N. Ocean Boulevard.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 3:40 a.m. The victim, who was not merely a tourist but had traveled to Myrtle Beach for a profoundly solemn occasion – to scatter the ashes of a beloved family member.

At approximately 3:35 a.m., after fulfilling her solemn duty, the victim returned to the motel. It was then that she encountered the suspect, passing by her on the beach access. Standing about six feet tall wearing black shoes and a dark blue shirt, he was instantly suspicious.

As the suspect walked toward the victim, he abandoned his bike at a nearby pedestal. Recognizing the potential danger, the victim discreetly gestured to a witness at the pool area, urging them to retreat to their room for safety.

The victim grew increasingly concerned for both her and the witness’s well-being. As she entered the motel’s rear hallway, the suspect closed in on her. Reacting swiftly, the victim ran up the nearest staircase, causing the suspect to trip and fall.

To her horror, the suspect retrieved a handgun from his pants pocket and menacingly pointed it at her. In an attempt to defend herself, she retrieved her own firearm from her backpack and opened fire toward the suspect, with no intention of causing harm.

After the sudden gunshot, the suspect fled, leaving behind confusion and numerous unanswered questions.

Myrtle Beach Police continue to investigate. The impact of this event serves as a stark reminder that even in moments of deep solemnity, vigilance remains crucial.
