Southern Ohio Medical Center announced it has admitted its first case of COVID-19 to the hospital.
According to the hospital, the patient is undergoing treatment in a special unit. The unit was created for the sole purpose of caring for those infected with the virus. The hospital said that all necessary precautions are in place to prevent the spread of the virus to staff, patients, and visitors.
Low-Risk Situation
This comes just three days after SOMC said the hospital was in a low-risk situation in regards to Coronavirus. Accordingly, the hospital loosened restrictions on visitors. Patients in the hospital are now allowed to have one visitor at a time. Previously, visitors were banned unless it was an end-of-life situation, a woman in labor, or a hospitalized child. In those cases, patients were permitted, one visitor.
Visitors are required to wear a mask and are screened for symptoms.

Also, the Scioto County EMA announced that the 19th case of COVID-19 had been diagnosed in Scioto County. It’s not known if the current patient is a Scioto County resident or someone transported in from another county for treatment.
- So far the county stands at:
- 19 cases
- One hospitalization
- No deaths
- Fifteen of those diagnosed have recovered.
- Those infected ranged in age from 19 to 81.
COVID-19 at Lucasville
Last week it was announced that a staff member at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility had tested positive for the virus. Medical personnel from Wexner Medical Center in Columbus were at the prison yesterday to begin testing all staff and will be back tomorrow to finish the job.
Experts credited the low numbers at Lucasville to its status as a maximum security facility. The institutions that saw large numbers of Coronavirus cases kept inmates in dormitory-like settings where it was much easier to spread the virus.
