Reliable sources tell us that an intoxicated Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy kicked up a fuss at a local liquor store.

Scioto County Daily News is investigating reports from multiple witnesses about an incident that went down at the Portsmouth Kroger on Friday Night.

Deputy X then allegedly flashed his badge. However, Kroger employees were not impressed. In fact, one is reported to have told him that if the current sheriff wouldn’t do anything about Deputy X’s behavior, they’d contact the presumptive next sheriff, David Thoroughman. Expecting that Thoroughman would take care of him when he got into office.

Bitter Battle

Thoroughman appears to have secured a narrow lead in the bitterly contested race to replace Marty Donini as Scioto County Sheriff.  Sheriff Donini is retiring from the job after 16 years this November.

Portsmouth Police were called about the incident with Deputy X but did not respond to the scene. However, before anyone gets too excited, it is not uncommon for PPD to not go to the scene when Kroger’s own security has already handled the matter. Often, they’ll just take a report.
