A scammer impersonating a Spectrum employee targeted an 88-year-old Fourth Street resident.
The victim’s daughter contacted police just before 2 pm to report that the previous week a man wearing a Spectrum coat stopped by the mom’s 4th Street home. The man said he could waive the elderly woman’s Spectrum bill for the next two years because the company had received COVID funds.
He had the woman enter her Social Security number into his computer.
When the daughter checked with Spectrum, they discovered this was not how the company handled business. Officers took information for an identity theft report.
