Starving Dog Rescued from Dumpster Doing Better

A starving dog rescued from certain death in a dumpster is doing better today.

According to rescuers from the Huntington Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter, they received a report Friday night of a dog lying next to a dumpster. When they found the dog near-death, they held out little hope that she would survive but transported her to an animal ER.

Medical tests showed that the animal was starving to death.

The female dog, which is likely around eight years old, was too weak to stand but didn’t appear to have any other medical conditions. Her rescuers found that she had a sweet disposition and were pleased when she seemed to respond well to treatment and even began to eat.

They say she loves to be petted and will hopefully make a great addition to a family when she’s well enough to find a forever home. The shelter started a fundraiser to cover what may be substantial medical expenses.

Donors have to far pledged thousands of dollars to pay for her care.

On Monday morning, she was well enough to leave the emergency clinic to be transferred to a regular vet, though there will still be a long road to recovery. In a photo posted on the group’s Facebook page, the dog appears to be in much better shape than it was over the weekend.

The shelter is still raising money for the dog’s care and is also asking for suggestions for a name.
