STOLEN DOG, MISSING OXYGEN TANK – THEFTS ACROSS THE COUNTY

From a stolen oxygen machine to a missing bulldog and tracked AirPods, law enforcement across Portsmouth and Scioto County dealt with a string of unusual theft complaints. 🚗 VEHICLE BROKEN INTO IN LUCASVILLE Scioto County deputies first responded to Sedan Crabtree Road in Lucasville after a man reported his vehicle had been broken into overnight. According to the victim, several important items were stolen from inside the vehicle, including: A portable oxygen machine A power inverter Roadside emergency tools Deputies took information for a theft report. 🐶 AKC BULLDOG REPORTED STOLEN Deputies were also called to Carey’s Run–Pond Creek Road in West Portsmouth after a caller reported their American Bulldog had been stolen. The dog was reportedly AKC registered. Officers again took information for a report. ⌚ WATCH STOLEN, TIRES SLASHED Meanwhile in Portsmouth, police responded to the Grant and Mound Street area after a man claimed a woman stole his watch from his vehicle and slashed his tires. The caller told officers the woman had left the area heading toward Oasis Carryout in a white Mustang. Police noted the woman later returned the man’s wallet. The caller requested documentation of the incident, but no formal report was filed at that time. 🎧 STOLEN AIRPODS LEAD POLICE TO KENT STREET Another caller contacted Portsmouth police after tracking stolen AirPods to an apartment building on Kent Street. Officers said the caller was able to ping the device location, but police could not determine exactly which apartment the signal was coming from. Because the original theft reportedly occurred in the county rather than the city, the caller was advised on how to continue the process through the proper jurisdiction. 👀 TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING THEFT CASES Police say stolen-item tracking technology is becoming increasingly common. People now regularly track: Phones AirPods Smartwatches Vehicles Tablets Even pets with GPS collars But officers caution that tracking data alone doesn’t always give enough legal certainty to force entry into homes or apartments. ⚠️ PROTECTING YOUR PROPERTY Police recommend: Locking vehicles, even at home Avoiding leaving medical devices or valuables in cars overnight Using tracking features on electronics Recording serial numbers Photographing valuable items and pets Because today, thieves aren’t just targeting cash.
