Stolen Walker Recovered After Police Track It Across Portsmouth

Walker stolen from Kroger

A man’s report that someone stole his walker from Kroger sent Portsmouth police across several locations before officers recovered the mobility aid and made an arrest.

Officers were first called to Alexandria House, where the victim told police his walker had been taken while he was at Kroger.

For someone who depends on a walker to get around, the theft was more than the loss of a piece of property. It could leave the victim unable to move safely or handle basic daily tasks without help.

Police took information for a theft report and then went to Kroger to determine whether store surveillance cameras had captured the incident.

The search did not stop there.

Officers also checked the area around the nearby homeless shelter and then continued to Findlay Manor while attempting to locate the missing walker and identify the person who took it.

Their efforts paid off.

Police recovered the stolen walker and took Robert Henry into custody on a theft charge.

Henry was booked into the Scioto County Jail and later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

He posted bond and was released with a hearing scheduled for Aug. 25.

The walker was returned to its owner.

The theft charge is an allegation. Henry is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
