It was a busy stretch for Portsmouth Police as local businesses and workers called in a mix of concerns—from ongoing problems with a customer to possible drug activity.
At Goodwill on Robinson Avenue, employees said they’ve had enough of a repeat visitor. Staff reported an older man driving a newer gray Dodge Ram has shown up multiple times to drop off items—but each visit has come with rude behavior and cursing at employees.
Managers checked their cameras but weren’t able to get a clear plate or identify him. Officers advised them on how to issue a trespass notice if he returns and asked them to follow up if they’re able to capture better video or a tag number.
Around 6 p.m., a Columbia Gas employee called police after witnessing what they believed was a drug deal. The caller provided a description of a gray or blue Chevy Equinox with a license plate and said it left the area heading south on Gay Street. Officers were given the information for follow-up.
Not long after, another call came in from the Gay Street area—this time involving a man at Kroger acting strangely. A caller reported the man was pulling his shirt up over his head repeatedly and appeared to be under the influence, all while pushing a cart full of groceries.
Officers were dispatched but had to divert to a higher-priority emergency before they could make contact.
No arrests were made in these incidents, but they highlight the range of issues local businesses are dealing with—from disruptive behavior to suspected criminal activity.
If you see something that doesn’t seem right, even if it’s not clearly a crime, it’s always worth reporting. It helps police track patterns and respond faster when things escalate.
