Stranger With Gun Panics Neighbors

A strange man with a gun caused some Kentland Avenue neighbors to panic plus a reported pit bull attack. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Drunken Uncle

A Wayne Avenue caller contacted police just after midnight to report her uncle was passed out on the neighbor’s porch. 

Police discovered he had an open warrant and was also on the PMHA barred list. Officers took him to jail for booking. 

Meanwhile at Speedway

A Speedway employee told police there was a woman screaming and yelling in the parking lot while she went through a bag just before 1 am. She told officers she was yelling at people who were chasing her. Officers advised her to leave. 

Woman Reports Stalker

A Walnut Street woman told police that her ex-boyfriend was stalking her and had showed up at her house to peep in the window.

The officer advised her of the process of filing a protection order and told her to contact them if he returned.

Suspicious Activity

Runaway in the Coal Shoot?

Officer checked out a Vinton Avenue residence after someone told them a runaway teen with a warrant was possibly hiding out. Police were told that the child might be hiding in the coal shoot. 

However, no one answered the door. Officers also checked several other locations in the search for the teen.

Kentland Avenue Neighbors Report Man With Gun

Kentland Avenue neighbors were spooked by a stranger on their street just after 2:30 pm. A caller reported a man in a silver truck holding a handgun in the air.

Police caught up with him and discovered he working for a property investigation service. They noted he had a cell phone on a mount. Police also discovered a weapon in a holster. 

Officers contacted the property company to confirm that he works there. He showed police a list of properties he was in town to inspect for the bank. 

Officers returned his weapon to him. 

Worried Dad

A concerned dad contacted the police at 4:30 pm. He said his child’s mother is homeless and hanging around drug users. One of her friends was arrested in Jackson for endangering the child. 

Police advised him to file for emergency custody. 

Pit Bull Attack on Kendall Avenue

A Kendall Avenue caller told police three men were walking around with a pit bull and their animal attacked her dog. 

The pit bull owners claimed the woman’s dog was the aggressor
