A pair of seemingly stray dogs led a Pickaway County family to a dead body on Christmas Day. The residents of a home on Winchester Road in Ashville made the horrifying discovery after returning home abound 4 pm and discovering two strange dogs still wearing their leashes and collars on their property.

Shortly afterward, they found a dead man in their driveway. Pickaway County Sheriff Robert Radcliff says that deputies and detectives identified the dead man as 33-year-old Douglas Michael Buechler of Columbus. The deceased had multiple injuries. Further investigation revealed that the dogs belonged to the victim but they could not find his car.

An autopsy by the Pickaway County Coroner determined the death was a homicide. Around 9 pm, an Ashville PD officer located the vehicle parked on Bortz Street. Law enforcement decided to stake out the vehicle to see if anyone returned to it.

Around 5 am the next morning a man returned to the vehicle, got in, and drove away. Sheriff Radcliff accompanied by Pickaway and Franklin County Deputies, as well as Ashville PD officers, followed the vehicle and stopped it at Ashville Pike and Miller Road.

Bobby Lee Bear White, 42, of Canal Winchester, was arrested and charged with Possession and Trafficking in Drugs. He’s being held in the Pickaway County Jail with no bond.

Sheriff Radcliff says White is a person of interest in the death of Mr. Buechler but the case remains under investigation.
