Suspect Speeds Away — Then Drives Right Back to the Scene

A deputy looking for the other half of a domestic dispute didn't have to search for long. He spotted the suspect's red pickup, watched it speed away and run a red light — only for the driver to head right back to the home where the investigation began. By the end of the call, both men involved in the fight were headed to jail. According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Office report, deputies initially responded to a domestic violence complaint involving Steven Davis and Kenneth Buskirk. Davis told the deputy that Buskirk, his roommate's son, had threatened to kill him if he ever went to jail. Davis admitted striking Buskirk in the face but said he did so to defend himself. Davis also told the deputy there had been a previous altercation in which Buskirk allegedly struck him hard enough to leave both of his eyes blackened. The deputy observed an injury to Davis's arm along with a knot and bruising above his eyebrow. The injuries were photographed. Buskirk had already left in a red Ford F-150, so the deputy headed out to find him and get his side of the story. Deputy Spots the Red F-150 While patrolling County Road 1, the deputy spotted a red F-150 matching the description and turned around to catch up. According to the report, the truck appeared to accelerate to a high rate of speed before turning onto Sandusky Road and heading toward U.S. 52. The deputy said the truck then drove through the intersection against a red light, nearly causing multiple crashes. But instead of continuing to flee, Buskirk drove back to the same residence the deputy had just left. The deputy followed him in. Buskirk was detained and, after being advised of his rights, agreed to explain what happened. He gave a different version of the fight. Buskirk said Davis punched him in the face first. He admitted responding by kneeing Davis in the face hard enough to knock him to the floor. Buskirk also reportedly told the deputy, “I ain't bragging, but last time knocked him out.” The deputy discovered that Buskirk did not have a valid driver's license and that his driving privileges were suspended. He was cited for driving under suspension. As for the fight, the deputy said both men admitted intentionally striking each other and both had visible injuries. With conflicting accounts, the deputy said he could not determine which man had been the primary aggressor. So Steven Davis and Kenneth Buskirk were both arrested for domestic violence and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. Photographs of their injuries were submitted with the report.
