Suspect Swallows Drugs When Police Catch Up to Him on Stolen Bike

A theft suspect swallowed drugs when police caught up with him and a child is snatched during a domestic disturbance. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Panhandling Problems

At 4:22 pm, employees of AT & T Wireless contacted police about a man in a green hoodie harassing customers for money in front of the store. 

Police caught up with the man at Big Lots and told him to stop bothering people.

Woman Down on 5th Street

A caller reported a woman lying on the ground between houses on 5th Street. She told police she’d been sick and wanted to go to the hospital. An ambulance transported her to SOMC.

Suspect on Stolen Bike Swallows Drugs

Officers caught up with a suspect on a stolen bicycle on Robinson Avenue just before 6 pm. The man told police he’d swallowed a gram of drugs.

First responders took him to the hospital and police issued a summons to appear in court. An officer took the bike back to the store it was taken from. 

Child Caught In Domestic Disturbance

A scary situation on Kendall Avenue just before 8:30 pm. A woman called the police to report her boyfriend was breaking her stuff. 

When police arrived on the scene, they learned the boyfriend left with the woman’s child in a white Chevy. Police caught up with the man on 7th Street. Officers retrieved the child.

CPS responded to the scene, took a report, and told police to release the child back to the mother. 

Helping Hand

When a vehicle blew a tire on 5th Street just before 4 am, police offered a helping hand. The vehicle was not equipped with proper tire-changing equipment, so an officer provided the tools.

The car was soon fixed and on its way.
