SWAT Team Responds After 2 Men Threaten to Ambush Police

A volatile situation erupted just after 3 am on Center Street in Portsmouth. The 911 caller said a woman was being attacked.

In short order, the situation escalated when officers were told there were 2 men on the roof who were going to shoot any police officers that responded.

In turn, this triggered a series of events to protect officers, citizens, and the victim. The SWAT Team staged its operation at O’Reilly Auto Parts.

The first manpost was established at Vinton and Young to the south of the scene. On the north side of the area, another post was established at Grant and Center. Immediately after that, the police began encroaching on the property.

Eventually, police confirmed that two men had been taken into custody at 5:35 am.

Arrested were Bryan and Michael Hoops, Jr.

Police officers returned the female victim to her residence. The victim did not sustain any serious injuries.

There were no injuries reported to the response team.
