Ted Cruz Accidentally Gives Juice to Matthew McConaughey Bid for Governor of Texas

Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, must have had a very bad day when his fervently vocal supporter stepped on a land mine during an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt.

Ted Cruz, a Texas Senator and former Solicitor General of Texas, went off-script during his interview.

On one hand, he called Governor Abbot a mentor and a close friend. Then, Senator Cruz gave a monologue of gushing praise for Matthew McConaughey.

Of McConaughey, he talked about spending time with him, his good looks, pleasant nature, and his stardom. The real kick in the grapes to his close friend and mentor came when Cruz said he hopes that McConaughey doesn’t run for Texas Governor because he would be a “formidable candidate on the ballot”.

McConaughey has been fairly quiet about his intentions to run for Texas Governor. Sources have reported that he has been making the calls to see if his candidacy could be viable and if there would be funding to back it.

A Texas statewide political office hasn’t been won by a Democrat since 1998. Sources say he would run on a reasonably moderate Republican platform if he were to run.

Ted Cruz’s accidental endorsement just opened the deep pockets of the Texas political machine.
