A teen caused a panic on the Grant Bridge and children were left barefoot in the rain during a domestic incident. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
Just after 8 am, a witness reports a woman sitting on the ground by a pole at Gallia and Kendall. Police caught up with her at Gallia and Linden. Officers said she seemed okay, but did seem to have mental health issues.
Police responded to a report of teenagers carrying a street sign at Kinneys Lane and the Scioto Trail. Police caught up with the kids. They claimed they had found the sign.
Officers gave the kids rides home and arranged for the city to pick up the street sign.
Jumper Fears on Grant Bridge
Witnesses reported a young man outside the railing on the U.S. Grand Bridge at 10 am. Police and an ambulance headed to the scene.
The teenager explained to officers that he walks on the outside of the bridge rail almost daily to avoid traffic.
Officers said he did not want to harm himself. A Greenup County Sheriff’s Office Deputy gave him a ride home to South Shore.
Kids Caught In The Middle
Just before noon, police responded to a domestic incident on Farley Court. Witnesses reported a woman screaming and hitting a man.
Officers said the man and woman were arguing over some personal property. They also said the woman kept screaming at children who were standing in the rain with no shoes.
Both people left the area with their children, however, officers contacted CPS to do a welfare check.
Kids Harass Neighbor with Prank Calls
A 6th Street woman contacted officers at noon to report neighbor kids harassing her with prank calls.
Offices spoke to the parents of the children and advised all parties to block each other on social media and ignore each other.
Child Found Outside Alone
Jackson Avenue neighbors reported a small child playing outside a home just before 1 pm. They tried to contact adults in the home with no luck.
When officers arrived on the scene, the child was inside. However, the neighbor said they put the child inside. When the officer knocked on the door, the mom answered.
She explained she was upstairs feeding another child and didn’t realize her other child had left the home. Officers advised her to get proper door locks.
Under the Influence
Just after 4 pm officers responded to a report of a man not breathing on Argonne Road. The man came around after a dose of Narcan. He refused further medical treatment.
Police responded to another overdose report at midnight on Waller Street. The fire department transported the woman to the hospital for treatment.
