Teen Charged With Attempted Murder Charge Faces Judge

Shelby Broughton

The 18-year-old Portsmouth girl charged in a brutal attack was arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Thursday morning. Teenager Shelby Broughton faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and felonious assault.   According to court records Broughton will be staying in jail at least until her arraignment on February 6. At that time, the court will consider whether she should be released on bond.

While there has been no public statement from law enforcement, sources tell us Broughton and multiple juvenile accomplices were arrested and charged in connection with a stabbing near Walmart that left a teenage boy fighting for his life.

A GoFundMe set up to aid the victim’s family alleges the boy was lured to the shopping center to buy shoes for someone in need and set upon by a group who intended to rob him. Despite initial scanner traffic indicating he might have driven himself to the hospital, sources tell us his injuries were too serious, and he was left bleeding at the scene while his attackers fled.

Surprisingly, considering the serious and public nature of the crime, there have been no public statements from law enforcement about the matter. Not even to reassure citizens that the public was not at risk.  When SCDN reached out to New Boston Police, they indicated that there would eventually be a press release but also declined to give us their email address so we could contact them with an official Ohio Open Records Request.
