A teenage student at Rock Hill High School took off with a friend’s truck from the parking lot during the school day and later texted the pal to say that he had borrowed it, accompanied by pictures of the wrecked truck.
Officers said they found the truck in a ditch with major damage. The young driver said someone ran him off the road but fled the scene and that he had permission to drive the truck.
Adult witnesses at the school said they were present when the boy who owned the truck got a call from the driver asking him to say he had permission to borrow the truck. The owner responded, “I’m not saying that.”
Additionally, officers obtained school security video of the driver taking his girlfriend’s car and leaving the school for an hour before coming back and trying to take another car. The pair then settled on the truck they wrecked.
Officers cited the driver for the wreck and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
