Teen Takes Off With Man She Met Online

PPD Officers investigated an assault with a George Foreman Grill, and a case of breaking and renovating. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing. 

Assault With A George Foreman Grill

Just after 7:30 am, police received a report that someone threw an indoor grill at a group of people waiting for the school bus on Summit Street. 

By the time officers arrived, there was no one at the scene. However, officers located the remains of a George Foreman grill scattered about the area. 

Breaking and Renovating

A 2nd Street property owner contacted police at 2:30 pm to report some bizarre activity in his apartment buildings. He said items that do not belong to him keep turning up inside the apartments.

Among the times:

He also reported fresh sawdust. He thinks whoever it is got into the building through a damaged door. He said the intruder also left a sign written in a foreign language. He told police he planned to block access to all the doors and change the lock on the front door. 

Missing Boy

A woman contacted officers at 4:24 pm to report her son missing. She said she hadn’t seen him since Sunday.

The worried mom said someone messaged her and said they saw him at a local gas station.

Meanwhile at Kroger

A Kroger employee contacted officers at 6 pm to report a suspicious man and woman following people around the store. 

The pair left before officers arrived on the scene. 

Porch Pirate Spotted

A Grandview Avenue caller contacted police to report he’d been hit by a porch pirate on multiple occasions. 

He spotted the man on a bicycle carrying a backpack and wearing a blue surgical mask. 

Teen Takes Off With Man She Met Online

A concerned father contacted police at 827 am to report his mentally ill 18-year-old daughter met a man online and left with him.

He said the man picked his daughter up in a white car and left the area. However, he did manage to get the license number of the vehicle. 

Cutting Family Ties

Officers received a request from a man in North Carolina to check on the welfare of his cousin, whom he hadn’t heard from since Christmas.

Police went to see the man who said he is fine but had chosen to cut ties with his family. Officers told him they would not bother him with further welfare checks and informed the man’s family that he wanted nothing more to do with them. 

Child Assaulted in Mound Park

A worried grandpa contacted police just before 5 pm to report an attack on his granddaughter at Mound Park. 

He said that a 12-year-old boy and other kids bullied the 13-year-old girl and got into an altercation with her. 

Under the Influence

Just before 6 pm, a caller reported a man in the Aldi parking lot acting like he was on drugs. Police said he appeared to be sober but mentally ill. 

Camping at the ATM

At 11:30 pm, officers responded to the PNC Bank main entrance on Gallia for a report of people camping by the ATM. 

Officers woke them up and sent them on their way.
