JACOB BRYANT’S BARSTOOL PREACHER TOUR AT THE COLUMBIA FEATURING JONATHAN COX

PORTSMOUTH, February 18 — The Columbia will present award-winning Nashville artist Jacob Bryant on his “Bar Stool Preacher” tour featuring Johnathan Cox, on February 10.

At 5:30 p.m., seating begins! At 7 p.m. Greenup, Kentucky’s Jonathan Cox will open the show, and at 8 p.m., Jacob Bryant will take the stage and your hearts!

Bryant recently made his Opry debut and wrote the hit “Out there” with Luke Combs. Bryant’s most popular song, “Poor Whiskey On My Grave,” had 12 million plays on Spotify alone and topped rocking country charts nationwide.

The Columbia has enlisted Meta MoJo to direct entertainment — a production company based in Dallas-Fort Worth owned by Scioto County native MJ Brickey-Godfrey.

“The Columbia owner Lee Scott and I planned to reopen the venue right before the pandemic, and I do not have to tell anyone how that went,” Brickey-Godfrey said. “Live venues are now recovering, and we believe it is a good time to get back to our plan.”

Brickey-Godfrey said so much heart has gone into the reopening of The Columbia.

“We are dedicating this show to Glen ‘Pinster’ Taylor, who tragically died after being struck by a car the day we arrived to walk the venue,” MJ Brickey Godfrey said. “He loved country music, was instrumental in renovating The Columbia, and was excited about the reopening.”

Brickey-Godfrey said the direction of The Columbia is to bring live music and entertainment while collaborating with area businesses and organizations to create a safe arts and entertainment district in downtown Portsmouth and Taylor looked forward to being a part of that legacy.

“A downtown should represent what a city and surrounding area treasurers most,” Brickey-Godfrey said. “To name a few things — culture, commerce, education, entertainment, and the future.”

“We need safe venues and cityscapes for not only the people of Portsmouth but the students that bring revenue to the area,” she said. “Shawnee State University has hundreds of residential students from outside of Scioto County who live on campus and near downtown who would welcome a new entertainment venue.”

Brickey-Godfrey enlisted other successful natives to help aid in The Columbia’s mission.

“I asked Josh Phillips, who has been working out of Nashville in tour production, to come on board with Meta MoJo as an executive producer alongside me,” she said.

Josh Phillips, who has longed to bring live music and entertainment to the area, has been a part of Friends of Portsmouth, River Days, and community food drives. He is also the event organizer for Sonora’s Mexican Grill’s annual block party.

“I am proud of Josh (Phillips). He has worked out of Nashville with Kane Brown, the Zach Brown Band, Luke Combs, Tyler Childers, Jack Harlow, and AJR,” she said. “He will ensure patrons get an optimum experience and talent get quality treatment — he specializes in talent and tour logistics.”

Brickey-Godfrey said The Columbia and Meta MoJo crew appreciate the warm welcome back and look forward to many future shows.

“Oh, we also have a Grammy award-winning special surprise to entertain people as they enter the venue,” she said. “This won’t disappoint.”
