The Great Unmasking of Ohio: or is it?

As of today, Ohioans will be able to see a lot more faces.

After midnight, Ohio’s COVID-19 pandemic health orders were recalled, and with them, longstanding restrictions on masks, social distancing, and crowded areas ended.

We’re back to “Normal” now, right? Well, not exactly.

“Ohioans have done a great job during the pandemic. And, with more than five million Ohioans who have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, we are getting back to living the lives we want,” Governor Mike DeWine stated on Tuesday.

“However, it is important that we all still remember that there are a significant number of Ohioans who remain unvaccinated and are at-risk, including everyone under the age of 12. It’s important that those not fully vaccinated continue to wear masks indoors and follow other preventative measures to keep themselves as healthy as possible.”

Exceptions include certain health care facilities, public transportation, airplanes, and businesses that require masks. Additionally, Ohio schools will decide whether to set their own health precautions.

By Tuesday, 5.3 million Ohioans had received the first of two doses of the Coronavirus vaccine, and 4.7 million, nearly 40%, had been fully vaccinated.

Is it possible to shop without a mask? That depends on the circumstances. Many large chain retailers have already removed mask requirements for fully vaccinated shoppers and employees unless mandated by local and state laws.

So, make the most of your new freedom. Don’t forget your mask, however, because it may still be necessary for some situations.
