A residential alarm sent Portsmouth Police Officers to an 8th Street home just after 2 a.m. An alarm company alerted officers and told them the homeowner told them no one should be on the premises.

When police arrived around 2:50 a.m., they found the front screen ripped off the screen door and a back window loose and hanging at the bottom.

An investigation revealed that someone forced open an outbuilding and left the rear door to the home unlocked. Officers didn’t find anyone inside the building. They resecured the door and told the homeowner to contact them if any new damage was discovered.

About an hour later, the owner told officers he spotted a window open above the porch and suspected someone could still be inside.

When police went back to the scene, they discovered the window was broken and that it was possibly how intruders entered the house. He told officers that this was an ongoing problem at the location.

Around 4:40 p.m., a witness spotted several juveniles on the roof of a building at Adams and 8th Street. The owner said the kids were trying to get inside. When officers arrived on the scene, they took the four kids into custody and dropped them off at their parents’ houses. They were warned to stay away from the building.
