Thieves Hit Homes and Cars Across County

Portsmouth Police received multiple reports of thefts around the city. At 11 a.m., a Jackson Avenue caller said someone stole an air conditioning unit from a house. Officers took information for a report. 

A 5th Street caller contacted officers at 3:09 p.m. to report someone had broken into her vehicle. Twenty minutes later, a Jackson Avenue caller had the same complaint. She said some went through her vehicle, though she wasn’t sure if they took anything.  

At 3:40 pm, A Highland Avenue caller said someone broke into his garage and stole multiple tools. 

Just after 8:20 a.m., officers were called to a 10th Street auto repair business for a report that someone had broken into two vehicles. Officers took information for a report.  

Crooks also struck out in the county. A Franklin Furnace resident contacted 9-1-1 at 11:45 p.m. to say someone broke into his home and took coins belonging to his grandfather. This was not the first incident at the home, a few weeks earlier, someone broke into his shed and stole tools.  

A West Portsmouth Business spotted a thief on the lot under one of their trucks just before but was unsure if they got away with anything. Officers said they would check the area.  

Around 3:35 a.m., a Wheelersburg woman told officers a man was breaking into her car. She described him as wearing a sweatshirt and a backpack. The woman said someone in an SUV picked the man up shortly before officers arrived.  

Twenty minutes later, another caller said a man matching the description broke into the Pleasant Valley Apartments. 

At 9 a.m., a caller reported someone busted the window out of a vehicle at the Park and Ride. 

Deputies headed back to Dogwood Ridge Road at 3:40 p.m. for another report of items stolen from a vehicle.
