Timothy Ray Carter, age 74, of Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, August 23, 2026, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Center, following complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Tim was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on March 6, 1952, to his loving parents. Raised in Portsmouth, he attended Portsmouth West High School before honorably serving his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1976. During his military service, Tim earned the National Defense Service Medal and achieved qualification as a Rifle Expert (M-16).
Following his military service, Tim remained active in his community as a member of American Legion Post 73, AMVETS, and the United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT). A talented and prolific artisan, Tim was an avid woodcarver who took great joy in creating unique pieces and sharing his work with family members and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Al Vernon Carter and Joyce Mullins, as well as his brother, Alan Carter Sr.
Timothy is survived by his children, Timothy Ray Carter Jr. and Brenda Carter; his grandchildren, Kiera and Keshawn Carter; his sister, Rosalyn Thomson; his brother, Steve Carter; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Scioto Burial Park, 4757 Mc Dermott Pond Creek Rd, McDermott, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tim’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, his favorite charitable organization.
