Residents caught a thief in the act of stealing tools in broad daylight on Tuesday afternoon.
A woman said she spotted a man walking back in forth in front of their home and kept a close eye on him via security camera as he stole a drill, pipe wrench, tape measure, locks, and other items from the porch of her Chesapeake home.
She stayed on the phone with 9-1-1 while she watched the man walk around her property with a dog. Her father-in-law showed up and confronted the man, who denied taking anything and took off walking down the road.
However, a deputy soon spotted the man and detained him. Officers discovered a drill, locks, a pipe wrench, a tape measure, and other tools in the man’s bag.
But there were also more dangerous discoveries, including syringes, bags of fentanyl and meth, a spoon, and two burnt joints.
Officers arrested the man, and his stepfather came to pick up his dog.
