Travis Wayne Bratton, 80, of Portsmouth, a former Stout resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at SOMC. He was born on August 7, 1945, in Vivian, WV, a son of the late Arthur Robert “A.R.” and Annie Belle Bond Bratton.
Wayne attended Fort Chiswell High School in Virginia and joined the Marine Corps soon after his graduation. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and he received a Letter of Appreciation for his military service. He was also a member of the James Dicky Post #23 American Legion. Wayne was an active member of Cornerstone Global Methodist Church and its Saturday Morning Men’s Class. He retired as an adjuster from Auto Owners Insurance after his career in the insurance industry. Wayne loved to fish and enjoyed having his family over for fondue nights. He was appreciated for being the popcorn popper for the youth basketball league at Cornerstone Church, as well as for the congregation once a month. When his sons were in school, he volunteered with the PHS Band Boosters and often worked in the concession stand at home games.
Surviving Wayne is his son, Ryan James (Annie Lane) Bratton of Portsmouth; his longtime companion, Mary Beth Fike, of Portsmouth; a bonus son, Ladd Dunham of Wheelersburg; two siblings, Glenn Bratton of Mesa, AZ, Betty Bratton Spears of Farmersville; Mary’s children, Sheri Fike Anderson and Darren (Erica) Fike, as well as their children, Kevin Anderson, Kate Tackett, Trenton and Trevor Fike, and Jackson, Erin and Ali Shoemaker.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Andrew Bratton; and two siblings, Robert Bratton and Rennie Hawks.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Cornerstone Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Charles officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. The James Dickey Post 23 American Legion Honor Guard will provide military rites.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the church.
