Two hurt in Rarden shooting

Two people were taken by air ambulance to area hospitals after an early-morning shooting in Rarden. It all occurred at the home of Lonnie Elliot on Wallace Road around 7:30 am this morning.

A neighbor called 911 to say that he’d found Lonnie Elliot, 68, injured in his front yard. Earlier the neighbor had heard a gunshot and observed a vehicle fleeing the area.

When detectives from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene they discovered that Elliot had gotten into an argument with Sabrina Gilbert, 38, who lives in a camper at the same address and her guest, Dustin Underwood, 37, of Waverly.

Both Ms. Gilbert and Mr. Underwood claim that Mr. Elliot took out a firearm during an argument. They told police that Mr. Elliot shot Ms. Gilbert in the side. Mr. Underwood then fought with Mr. Elliot and took the weapon away from him. Underwood then put Ms. Gilbert in a vehicle to rush her to the hospital in Pike County.

Mr. Elliot was life-flighted to Cabell Huntington Hospital with injuries from the fight with Mr. Underwood. Ms. Gilbert was life-flighted to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Mr. Underwood cooperated with officers and gave them the .38 caliber handgun Mr. Elliot used in the shooting. The scene is still being processed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigations and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Anyone who may have information concerning this investigation is encouraged to contacted Detectives Jodi Conkel and or Matthew Spencer from the Scioto County Sheriff s Office at 740-354-7566.
