Two Injury Crashes Keep Portsmouth Police Busy

Portsmouth Injury crashes

Portsmouth police and emergency crews responded to two injury crashes within less than an hour, including a head-on collision that temporarily had dispatchers alerting an air ambulance.

The first crash was reported around 10:30 a.m. at 7th and Chillicothe streets.

According to the report, a white Suburban and a smaller dark-colored vehicle were involved in the collision.

An ambulance transported one driver to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment.

Police said they planned to follow up later and issue a citation for failure to control.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 11:16 a.m., officers were called to Coles Boulevard for a head-on crash.

Initial reports said one driver was unconscious and that a 6-year-old child was inside one of the vehicles.

Emergency crews responded, and Air Evac was notified because of the seriousness of the crash. Officers blocked traffic at Coles Boulevard and Dorman while Portsmouth City Services worked to set up signs and help control the scene.

Police also called for a tow truck.

After crews assessed the patients, the air ambulance was canceled. Two squads transported victims to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment.

The reports did not provide an update on the conditions of those injured in either crash.
