Portsmouth police barely had time to catch their breath after one suspect took off on foot before another driver decided to turn the same neighborhood into his own personal racetrack.
The first chase started around 12:15 a.m. near Grant and Franklin Avenue, where a traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit.
Officers caught up with Alton Porter within about eight minutes and took him into custody. Police also called for a tow truck for his vehicle.
Porter was arrested on charges of having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence and obstructing official business and booked into the Scioto County Jail.
That might have been enough excitement for one night.
It wasn’t.
Then Came the Motorcycle
Around 12:22 a.m., officers tried to stop a motorcycle near 17th and Grandview.
The rider took off.
And he really took off.
Police clocked the motorcycle at 61 mph, then 70 mph, before the chase moved onto Galena Pike.
At one point, officers reported the rider doing 75 mph in a 40 mph residential zone.
He then went the wrong way, jumped onto a sidewalk on 12th Street, and kept going.
Police said the motorcycle made it through three rolling roadblocks and nearly struck two officers on Twin Bridges.
Eventually, officers caught up with the rider south of Portsmouth Nutrition.
Police arrested Dylan Kennedy on charges of failure to comply with the signal of a police officer, obstructing official business, and probation violation.
He was also cited for speeding, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and driving without a license.
The motorcycle was impounded.
So within roughly 20 minutes, Portsmouth officers dealt with one man who ran from a traffic stop and another who allegedly treated city streets, sidewalks, and roadblocks like obstacles in a video game.
Both rides ended at the Scioto County Jail.
