Concerned workers from the Veteran’s Administration called Portsmouth Police to report they were on the line with a veteran who expressed thoughts of self-harm. He told them he’d pulled the trigger on a gun, but it failed to go off.

Officers headed to the man’s home to check on him. He said he was fine, didn’t want to harm himself, and no longer owned a gun.

The man said he’d explained to the nurse he’d previously tried to harm himself and just wanted to talk to someone.

The nurse planned to find a counselor to speak with the man.
