Virginia Elizabeth Harness, 97, of Lucasville

Virginia Elizabeth Harness, 97, of Lucasville went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 29, 2021, at her home.

She was born April 23, 1924, at Camp Creek, Pike County, Ohio, a daughter of the late William Roy and Mary Louisa “Lulu” McElhaney Roberts.

Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer Douglas Harness, October 27, 1994; three brothers, Paul, Roy, and Eugene Roberts; and one sister, Irene Green.

She was a homemaker who loved to garden, take walks, laugh, sing, paint, and travel- but she especially enjoyed having her family gather for large holiday meals. She attended Big Bear Creek United Methodist Church serving at different times as Youth Director, teacher, and secretary. She was a member of the Morgan 50 Plus Club and the Late Bloomer Quilt Club.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Shirley and John McClay of Lucasville, Carolyn and Roger Cable of Lucasville; two sons, Doug and Debbie Harness of Portsmouth and Jerry and Ann Harness of Emerald Isle, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, David (Sarah) McClay, Roger Dale (Krista) Cable, Steven (Natalie) Harness, Jim (Heather) Harness, Jerry (Whitney) Harness, Paula (Sean) White, Nancy (Aaron) Prose, Jenny (Mike) Vietmeier, and Beth (John) Curtis; 18 great-grandchildren, Chambers, Charli, Chase, Hunter, Ian, Jean Paul, James, Summer, Whitney, Kyle, Lydia, Isaiah, Julia, Peyton, Cameron, Preston, Jordan, Caleb; and one great great-grandson, Zayden; one brother, Robert “Bob” Roberts of Tucson, Arizona; and one sister, Pearl Roberts of Shiner, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, at Big Bear Creek United Methodist Church with her grandson, Dr. Steven Harness and Pastor Frances Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. till the funeral hour Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
