Two women accused of stuffing merchandise into their purses during a Walmart shopping trip allegedly had something else in their possession that caught a deputy’s attention: suspected drug paraphernalia.
The incident happened at the South Point Walmart, where loss prevention employees reported watching two women conceal merchandise while walking through the store.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s report, store security observed the women placing items into their purses. The merchandise included approximately $120.95 worth of goods.
A Search Turns Up Something Else
When deputies investigated, they discovered more than the allegedly stolen merchandise.
One woman was reportedly carrying a pink container holding a crystal-like substance. Deputies also located three opened packages of drug paraphernalia containing suspected drug residue.
The suspected substances and paraphernalia were collected as evidence.
The report does not identify the crystal-like material or confirm whether it was an illegal drug.
Case Sent for Review
Deputies documented the shoplifting allegations and the items recovered during the investigation.
According to the report, the case was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The available report does not document an arrest or establish whether criminal charges were subsequently filed.
While the initial complaint involved less than $125 in merchandise, the discovery of the suspicious items added another dimension to the investigation.
