Walter William Tackett, a beloved father, devoted friend, and esteemed US Marine Veteran, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 21, 1939, Walter led a life filled with adventure, service, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh Gay and Effie Mae (Nee Sissel) Tackett, along with two brothers: James and Carl Tackett.
Walter’s legacy is painted with remarkable milestones. He served his country honorably as a Marine, embodying the spirit of bravery and dedication. After his military service, he brought his leadership and tenacity to law enforcement, becoming the Sheriff of Scioto County, Ohio, where he was known for his integrity and commitment to community safety. His career also included pivotal roles with the Los Angeles Police Department and SOFC State Prison, showcasing a life dedicated to service and justice.
Beyond his professional achievements, Walter was a true lover of the great outdoors. An avid fisherman and passionate outdoorsman, he found solace in nature, often riding his motorcycle down winding roads with the wind in his hair and the thrill of adventure in his heart. He cherished the simple pleasures-reading a good book, honing his shooting skills, and spending quality time with his beloved animals.
Walter is survived by his five daughters: Malinda,Marlene, Jennifer, Christina, Deborah; one sister, Charlotte Tackett, three grandchildren: David “Nate” Fetherolf, Emily Tackett, and Wyatt Tackett. While he may no longer be with us, the lessons he taught us about love, service, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
